Apple Fool / Apple Puree / Stewed Apples Recipe

Autumn has arrived and apple trees everywhere are releasing their fruit for us to enjoy! I've been blessed with an abundance of apples from various friends so this year I've been processing batches of stewed apple and apple fool to enjoy in crumbles, tarts and pies - it's going to be a delicious Autumn!

Ingredients:

1kg Bramley Apples

6tbsp Caster sugar

200ml water

Method:

Prepare the apples for cooking by peeling and coring. Chop into large chunks and throw into a saucepan.

To the saucepan add the water and the caster sugar and stir until well combined

Simmer on a medium heat until the water is bubbling - here's where you decide what consistency you want the apples to be at.

For crunchy apples in a crumble or tart, simmer for 10 minutes until the water has reduced but the apples still hold their shape and texture.

For apple fool or apple puree, simmer for 20 minutes until the apple has reduced and is no longer forming chunks.

Take off the heat and allow to cool. Store in jars in the fridge for up to three days, or freeze for 6 months in the freezer - or enjoy in a sweet treat straight away!
